PAblo Zamudio

Pablo Zamudio, born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico in 1974, began his artistic journey at 15. In 1998, he moved to Canada, where he worked as a graphic designer while honing his painting skills. From 2003 to 2020, he owned the renowned streetwear boutique El Kartel, curating numerous successful art shows featuring hundreds of artists, photographers, and designers. In 2020, Pablo dedicated himself fully to his artistic practice.

Zamudio’s work is characterized by geometric abstraction and op-art illusions using hard-edged monochromatic fields of vibrant colour. His imagery emerges from a meditative process that connects him deeply with his higher self. Influenced by his Mexican heritage, Zamudio draws inspiration from colorful markets, indigenous art, and geometric symbols, with a particular interest in Mayan, Zapotec, and Aztec cultures shaping his unique style.

Granville Island 2024

Zamudio created two works of art using our Low Line Loungers for Granville Island restaurant: Alimentaria Mexicana. He shares a special connection with this restaurant in many ways and was the perfect candidate for this partnership. When we began the conversation around the art pieces would look like, Zamudio asked “what if painted the wooden slats instead of the side panels?”. We had never considered this but it serves as a testament to Zamudio’s unique approach and creativity. We said “of course!” and these two beautiful works were born.

Before settling at their home on Granville Island, Zamudio’s first piece (right side) was featured alongside two others at the 2024 Interior Design Show here in Vancouver.
